The Association was formed in 2001 when the village shop was about to close. With massive support from the village, it purchased the shop and ran it as a community shop, with a paid manager, until it became unviable in 2014. After some years let to a private tenant, a new venture has again attracted enormous support and the ‘community hub’ with coffee shop reopened on 24th October 2019.

Volunteers run a ‘community hub’  to act as a social core for the village and provide a range of information and services.
They also serve in the shop selling a range of products such as eggs, bread, milk that form daily purchases and some staple goods for emergencies. The range will be adjusted to suit demand.
There is free wi-fi available, and a laptop for use by customers.

The coffee shop is privately run by Tarragon, and she really does bake excellent cakes!

Things are changing again in 2022 as described in the following personal note by Carolyn, written on behalf of the committee:

‘Since having my time off (followed by further time off with Covid) it has become very apparent that running the hub full time is not sustainable for me. To put it into context, I am spending a good proportion of each day doing things for the hub, shopping, ordering, pricing, shelf filling, filling rotas etc etc. It is relentless. I therefore shared this with the committee and we have discussed options for moving forward.

We have decided to restructure the way the shop operates to provide a more efficient service which relies less on volunteer support but still benefits the village.

I am pleased to say that we have approached Tarragon to do this and she has jumped at the chance to expand her business. She will be running the whole of the shop as her own business, selling her usual cakes and drinks plus the addition of our better selling shop basics. Her cafe space will be expanding and we are really excited to support her with her plans for the shop for the future.

Discussions regarding a formal lease are taking place’.
